The port city of Valencia lies on Spain’s south eastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. It’s known for its City of Arts and Sciences, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. Valencia also has several beaches, including some within nearby Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake and walking trails.
There are various reasons why Valencia is perfect for cycling. The two most obvious are climate and geography. Any place that has over 300 sunny days a year and a lack of extremes of temperature at both ends of the spectrum is a decent place for cycling.
The Tour of Valencia is another of our carefully put together tours that has everything to make it special for you the cyclist. All we want you to do is concentrate on the stunning scenery the friendships with other guests, the handpicked boutique accommodations, and the thrill of cycling some of the best road in Europe. This tour only has 6 rooms available so we can give you our full attention and be able to select some of the best Retreats in the region.
Arrive in Valencia and from there we will take care of the rest, we have two bus collections services from Valencia 1pm and 6pm where we will take you to your hotel and get you ready to ride the following day. We will have your bikes waiting for you, whether you are on our standard bike, or if you have upgraded, or even bringing your own. That evening we will gather round the table and have a welcome meal and get to know each other before heading out the following day on our first day of the tour.
Every day your bags will be moved, and you can choose to follow the GPX routes provided or ride with a guide who will back mark the route for you. Our bus “Bernard” will be alongside for the journey he will be carrying your bags and have cycling snacks, nutrition and drinks hot and cold available for you. Lunch will be at hidden away stops or we will have special picnic stops provided by our team. You will have a morning and afternoon snack stop also.
Hotels are small and handpicked by us with home cooked evening meals and accompanying wines. All dietary requirements can be taken care of, as always Cycle Retreats look after everything for you on and off the bike.
Day 4 is a kit wash day so you can get fresh kit and means you don’t have to bring as much with you. You will be given a day bag so you can access anything you might want to on the bus at designated stops.
When we reach our final destination the Cycle Retreats Hotels we can arrange for sports massage if you require, and we will have a gala dinner in the evening on day 6 to celebrate.
You return trip should be to Alicante airport and our bus will return you to the airport on the morning of day 7 at 8am so you get to Alicante airport for 9am. We start this wonderful trip in the heart of Valencia at the Parque del Museo de las Ciencias. This iconic centre was designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava for leisure and culture and really is a stunning starting point for the tour. We depart Valencia in a south easterly direction and the hustle and bustle of the big city soon dissipates behind and we are soon in the rolling countryside of Spain. The route takes in some rolling smooth roads and gradual climbs as we head east just south of the beautiful Sierra Martés mountains. The last 20km of the day is predominantly down hill with some lovely descents, a great way to end your first day.
This routes heads in a northerly direction through some secluded quiet rolling roads towards our destination town of Olvera. The historical town of Olvera is a paradise in the heart of the Pueblos Blancos. A hillside of whitewashed houses and alleys erected between olive groves and crowned by an exuberant monumental complex and castle. A great point to stop and enjoy the wonderful views and lunch. We continue in a anti clockwise loop enjoying the rolling countryside before heading back to the Retreat.
Feel free to bring your own bike, but if you don’t want the stress of transporting your pride and joy, we have it covered.
Our hire bikes are all fully carbon with Shimano 105 or Ultegra Di2 group set.
